Props to a friend

My good friend, Menkes, is a post doc here at CU.  He is now famous.  you can see it here.  Check out his mad skills in the video.

Schedules in ministry

Last week after our study on Monday night, one of the students had a question about the Bible.  Two hours later I looked up and everyone was gone and my family had gone to bed.  Two and a half more hours later I took him back to the dorms.  He is trying to decide if this God and Jesus and Bible thing is really true and worth following, so he had a lot of sincere questions.

Sometimes student ministry fits in a somewhat regular schedule and many times it doesn’t.  We have a lifestyle job instead of a time clock job. So normal doesn’t always apply.  Monday nights may end at 8:30 or 1 am.  Wednesday nights our after weekly meeting talking may end at 10 or midnight.  Friday nights our Friday Night Thing may end … well, you just never know.

The common thread through this is discipleship.  Some of the time may be fun and most of the time there are good discussions where we share life together, understand Jesus better, encourage one another in the midst of present circumstances, etc.   And then sometimes the most powerful discipleship words are “I’m going to bed.”

Retreat

The retreat went very well.  Thirty-eight (38) attended which was the most ever for Challenge.  Several international students (from Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and Japan) also came.  The man from Brazil had just received Christ (”said the big yes”) just two days before and shared his “history” with everyone.  He said this was why he had come to the US.

We had a very good time on Saturday morning.  Everyone had around 45 minutes to read through the story of the rich young man and then we discussed it during the session.  That story was a challenge for everyone there.

Thank you for your prayers!

Advancing in Retreat

Please be praying for us as we have our first retreat of the Fall this weekend.  At the moment we have 39 signed up, which is the most we have ever had since I’ve been at CU.  Pray that nothing will hinder these from coming.  We will be looking at making the most of our time so as to grow spiritually.

This will be a mix of Christians and non-Christians, so we are looking forward the time.  Generally, this retreat has been a great time and those who attend stick with Christian Challenge.

Falling Headlong into Fall

School has begun and so have we.  This is such a fun and also prayer filled time as we meet new students, but are just one of the many, many new things bombarding them as they arrive at school.  So we pray and try to connect as much as possible with as many as we can.

We had 12 freshmen over on Monday night and had a good time with a little name game, some of Julee’s fajitas, and looking at John 5.  Please pray as we try to be as faithful as possible in reaching and training freshmen this year.
